Springfield is the capital of Illinois, which was first settled in the early 1800’s, around the time Illinois became a state. The most famous past resident is Abraham Lincoln, who lived in Springfield from 1837 until he went to the White House in 1861. Major tourist attractions include a multitude of historic sites connected with Abraham Lincoln, and the only home he ever owned is open to the public, seven days a week, free of charge, and operated by the National Park Service.
Lake Springfield, a large man-made lake, owned by a local public utility company, supplies the city with recreation and drinking water. The lake was created as a source of water for Springfield and to provide coolant for the City Water, Light & Power coal-fired electrical generating plant. It has also served as a focus of local recreation, with owners of high-powered motorboats enjoying the lack of a power limit on much of the lake. The lake is known for warm-water fish such as bluegill, crappie, and flathead catfish.

The economy of Springfield is marked by government jobs, which account for a large percentage of the work force in the city. The State of Illinois is both the city and county's largest employer. Government jobs, including local, state and county, account for many of the city's non-agricultural jobs. Trade, transportation and utilities, and the health care industries are also large employers, however the largest private sector employer is thought to be Memorial Health Systems.

Healthy fast food? Is that even possible? And the average American packs on the pounds to...
All doctors and nurses must be specialists, at least to some degree, in geriatrics. Their patients will all be getting older eventually; for that matter, so will the doctors and nurses.
